Bento #233 - Marie the Cat

Friday, 15th October 2010
The way to make these sandwiches is just like the Stitch Bento I did last Monday. I think Stitch bento has better result as the imprint of Marie the Cat is not so prominent (^.^)

Bento #228 - Mischievous Stitch

Monday, 4th October 2010
It has been quite some time I didn't fix cartoon bento for Isaac. Since I need to prepare something quick, simple and yet cute today, I chose to fix Stitch sandwich with salmond spread filling. This bento only took me 10 minutes. If you have similar cookies cutter, do give a try...

Bento #211 - Tottemo Daisuki, DORAEMON

Time passed without realizing, it's Friday again. This weekend I will again busy sending Isaac up and down for his final dance show rehearsal.

Back to bento today, probably you will ask me what is "tottemo daisuki", yeah, it's "I LOVE U VERY MUCH, DORAEMON". Doraemon used to be my best-loved childhood comic and cartoon show. Hmm... I think it's time for me to teach Isaac how to read this interesting comic. I love the Doraemon song, but only know how to sing the chorus part. Wanna recall the days of childhood? Here, you can find the Doraemon song with original and translated lyric.

This Doraemon is completely made from Japanese light cheese cake. The nose and bell is from seapack. In the box we have South Africa orange. Wonder the fruit stall uncle make mistake as the size and colour orange looks like grapefruit, just that it is not so sour.

~~ Enjoy and have a relaxing weekend!! ~~

Bento #184 - Shaun the Sheep

Do your know there is this cartoon in the market? It's OK if you don't know, especially if you have no kid. Unlike those days (when I was a little girl), cartoons were so limited, few popular one were Popoye the Sailor Man, Woody Woodpacker, Ultraman, Mickey Mouse and etc, really not many. But these days, the cartoons in the market is too many to enumerate.

Last weekend I went back home during lunch, Astro was showing this cartoon. The sheep drew my attention. It's so cute, just like the nursery rhyme - Baa Baa Black Sheep. I thought the sheep must have named 'Baa Baa', therefore asked Isaac to double confirm. In fact it is not, Isaac told me the sheep is called Shaun Sheep. "Sean? How to spell?" I asked. "S.H.A.U.N" He answered. I was doubted honestly (^.^).

I googled for 'Shaun Sheep' after back to office. Hey, it's corret! Cool, this is another bento idea, not too hard to fix.... hehehehe

Bento #177 - Doraemon (ドラえもん)

Isaac's kindy will on and off have special theme on Friday. On that day, children have to wear according to the theme. Today is a Rainbow Day, kids are requested to wear colourful shirt to school. Isaac chose a long sleeve shirt with colourful stripes and said to me the shirt is just nice for the theme (^0^).....

In fact, I should fix him something a colourful bento, or maybe a rainbow bento to match the theme. But I only have this idea in mind after having the Doraemon fixed. I have to bear in mind, next theme, I should fix something related to promote the theme and make the day more special... hehehe

Bento #170 - Two Little Pooh Bear

It has been quite sometime I didn't pack sweet potato for Isaac because I am very particular in buying sweet potato. Sometimes the vege autie says very sweet but end up not at all. So normally I only buy from a particular organic stall. But I hardly go that market now, I go to the one nearer to my house.

Last week saw the purple yellow sweet potatos posted in Lia's house, made me feel like eating sweet potato. I went to nearby market on Saturday to look for it. I wanted to buy the japanese sweet potato (purple colour) but the auntie kept asking me to try the local one also (yellow colour). So I bought both, thought maybe can try Lia's recipe.

I didn't give a try on Lia's recipe as no fresh milk in the fridge. Maybe reserve for next time. Out of my expectation, the local sweet potatos taste better to me and yet it's cheaper (^_^).

Bento #159 - Pikachu

This two bentos were specially for my niece and nephew, Isaac didn't want bento this week, the reason was he wanted me to have a good rest (can sleep 30 minutes extra). Such a sensible child, thanks Isaac! But this is the only time I can prepare bento for my sis's kiddo, they are enjoying a week of school holiday. I did prepare Mini Mickey Pizza for them yesterday, but since it is the same as my previous bento, so I didn't snap photos and make a post on it.

Pikachu is also my nephew's favourite cartoon character, but my niece prefer Squirtle. I have never try to play around colour egg sheet, so can't make her what she loves. Let me try it out one day, then can fix a more colourful bento, not only orange, yellow and red.... hehehe

Bento #157 - Alvin and The Chipmunks

Yeah, this time really a 'chipmunk'! Isaac asked me why didn't I fix him 'Alvin' as promised? I did promise to fix Alvin for him, but didn't mention when (v.v). OK, since yerterday I only fixed him a simple bento, I decided to make him Alvin today.

I have Alvin cut out from bread yesterday night and stored it in air-tight container. If I were to do it this morning, wonder what time I need to wake up. Alvin's head I cut it this morning. It was cut using my 'Chip & Dale' cookie cutter. Alvin's shirt was made from two seapack (only the top layer) and joined together. You would be able to guess, the alphabet "A" represents "ALVIN". ("o")

Bento #148 - Mini Mickey Pizza

As we know, cheese is fattening, I want healthy but not fattening food, hence I have choosen this cheese, which is 60% less fat. Tell you what, the cheese taste terrible, it's just like eating plastic to me. How, should I throw it away? It's really a waste to send it to dusbin, but I really can't put it into my mouth. I admit I am not a cheese lover.....

I believe it will definately taste better if bake it. So I gave a try today to make a mini Mickey pizza.

Firstly, I prepared the ingredient needed. I cut the ham into star shape, cut some sausages into slices and cheese into small pieces.
Secondly, I cut the bread using into Mickey shape using Mickey cutter I brought from HK, then spreaded some spaghetti sauce on it.
Thirdly, I arranged the ham nicely on Mickey face, put two sausages on his head and spinkle some cheese on top of ham.
Fourthly, place it nicely on the tray and send it to oven. Monitor the "Pizza" so that it is not over toasted.
Lastly, packed it into bento box.....

Just as my expected, the "Pizza" taste really nice.... YUMMY !! I am so exicited, finally found a way get rid of this cheese (^o^).

Bento #138 - Sesame Street の Bert

Three weeks ago, I fixed a bento which looked like Bert but not Bert. I am not satisfied with it, thus fixed another Bert bento today. I think it looks very much like Bert this time (@.^).

I prepared two Bert, one is from bread and the other one from quail egg. I also packed half golden kiwi into the bento box. I wanted to fix an Elmo for Isaac too, but I worry that he can't finish it. To avoid food waste, I keep the idea for next time.

Bento #123 - Stitch

Below is the conversation between my niece and me yesterday during dinner.

(M = Me; S = Samantha)
M: Samantha, what time is your tuition tomorrow? I will fix you all bento tomorrow.
S: 9AM. OK, what you going to fix for us?
M: I can't tell you because of two reasons, can you guess?
S: I know, 1st - You want to give us surprise; 2nd - You scare after telling, it might not successful (pantang).
M: Absolutely right (@_^).

Not because of pantang-larang, but things sometimes happened unexpectedly. In such a case, I can still fix something simpler. I don't like the feeling of disappointment, so I will try my best not to let the children down.

Today I forced myself to wake up slightly earlier to fix these three stitches. The breads were cut using respective bento boxes so that it can fit nicely in the box. The breads were spreaded with some "Kaya" and stitch was made from two different kind of cheese. The bento looked plain, no fruit, not vege... as I didn't go market last Sunday. See if it is not raining tonight, will try to get some fruit from night market.

Bento #120 - Winnie the Pooh and Piglet

I have bad headache since Monday evening and yesterday it got worse. I went to bed at 8:30pm with my little boy who fel1 a sleep on sofa while waiting for me to finish my shower, I promised to bring him to Ah Ku house for Wii.

After ten and a half hours of sleep, my headache gone. Look at the watch, I have 45 minutes, should I fix the kids (included my niece & nephew) bento? I decided to cheer up thier day but with something simple, as warm up for myself after three weeks of break.

I took out the cutters I bought from Hong Kong, Pooh and Piglet is the simplest among all, the rest I need to cut the nori free hand. I cut the bread into Pooh and Piglet shape, speaded some peanut butter jam, then punched some faces from nori. In order to hold the nori firmly, touch it with some moyonnaise before putting it on the bread.

Speedy Pooh & Piglet bento. No fruit as I haven't stock up my fridge ('0').

~ Hooray ~ Bento #100 - Mickey Mouse

Yippie... Bento #100 finally out from oven!! Although it didn't meet my expectation, but at least something different... kekeke...

This morning before Isaac view his bento, he asked whether I successfully fix the Mickey. I didn't tell him the answer, let him checked it out himself, as I also don't know should consider successful or not. He looked at the Mickey and told me, "Yes, successful. Wah, so nice, but the eyes too small..." **phew**

On the left is the base, the other side of cheese, in case the Mickey doesn't turn out nice, then I can still use it (~0~). In fact, hubby & I vote for the black plain Mickey (@_@)!!

Bento #81 - Mr. Simpson

Looking at bento today, I have a kind of self satisfaction. I love this bento!

One day when I was folding clothes, Simpson on Isaac's t-shirt came into my eyes. I have sudden inspiration to fix Isaac a Simpson bento. I better fix this bento ASAP when I am still in high spirit.

I took out Isaac's Simpson shirt and drafted it out on a piece of paper, then make sure it can fit into one slice of cheese. Put a sheet of nori underneath the drawing, use a sharp knife and cut according to the line.

Place the nori on a slice of cheese, preferable orange colour cheese as Simpson should be in that colour. I did this a night before as it is time consuming. I wrapped the cheese and store it in the fridge in air tight container.

This morning, I cut the cheese by following the line. It is very much easier to cut cheese compare with nori. I used Shinkansen bento box as the bread cutter, so that the bread can fit nicely into the bento box.

I spreaded some fruit jam on the bread, then place Simpson on top of the bread. Eyes were cut from seapack. It looks plain, thus I added Simpson's name using light cheese.

Bento #45 - Keroppi Froggie

I was bubbling over with enthusiasm to make "Keroppi" bento for Isaac, so purposely go and buy green tea chiffon cake from RT House yesterday night, to have more lifelike "Keroppi" ... kekeke.

Tools of the day

Cut the chiffon cake using triangle rice mould and also cheese to make Keroppi's eyes

Use outer layer of seapack to make Keroppi's cheek

I actually made two Keroppi, one big and one small. But when I about to put in the bento box, realized that one of the cheek has missing. No choice, I have to bring it to office as my breakfast. Siau Pei Yiyi found it interesting, she has eaten it. I guess Keroppi is now jumping in her stomach (^0^)...
